Light at the End of the Tunnel – and another poll

. Hello subscribers! The title of this newsletter reflects the blog post uploaded on Thursday, entitled Light at the End of Dark Tunnels. This was inspired by a) some musings about the ongoing pandemic (where the light at the end of this particular tunnel is still painfully faint, if visible at all) and moreover b) the fact that I was approaching the end of my editing work of the first proofs of my forthcoming book. This is now completed and on Monday I’ll send the final batch back to the publishers. Then the ball will be in their court for a while until they send me the second proofs, hopefully with all my amendments, corrections, changes, comments etc. fully and properly integrated. I’ll have to check this thoroughly again, but it should be a lot less work than the first round. Once the second proofs are approved, the lengthy process of production begins … and it really will take a long time. From layout to repro, physical proofs back to layout for checking, then back to repro, and then to the printers, first prints have to be approved again (in house), and then the book actually goes to print, probably not before June 2021. And printing takes two months, so I’ve been told. At least the printing will no longer be done in China (as explained in the previous newsletter) but in Europe, so the book may be ready for shipping a little sooner. All that is out of my hands and the publisher’s business. At least I’ve so far kept all my deadlines, well within the limits in fact. The book should finally be out and available for purchase in about a year’s time from now. But so much for talking shop about the book. Back to you, my subscribers. With the book work largely out of the way, I can do more on the blog, and also put out another poll for a theme to pick for a future post. Last time the runner-up theme was ‘dark tourism and cars’, so that’ll be given here again as choice a), plus three more randomly picked ones from my draft list:
a) dark tourism & cars b) dark tourism & spheres c) dark tourism & clothing d) dark tourism & nuclear power plants (NPPs)
Please vote by replying to this email – or by leaving a comment underneath the blog post that has just gone up as well and also features this poll … The result will be revealed in a week’s time, also in the next newsletter.
