Fukushima water update & poll result
. Just a short one this time. There was not much going on on the DT blog this past week (I was distracted by various things, including computer hardware problems), just one new post went online, namely about Japan’s plans to discharge the contaminated water stored in tanks at the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. The claim that this water, having undergone filtering treatment, only contains relatively harmless tritium, as it is also quoted in that post, has, however, been challenged, especially by Greenpeace – see this press release. If the water indeed still contains carbon-14 alongside tritium, that would change the whole matter. It seems that TEPCO’s continued secrecy is a major factor still. It’s certainly worth keeping an eye on this topic …
And now to the result of the most recent poll about themes for an upcoming post here. It was a tight outcome, but I can report that this time around “dark tourism & clothes” did make it, if only just, ahead of “dark tourism & spheres” and with “dark tourism and lakes” narrowly in third place, while the option of “dark tourism & arches” didn’t get a single vote. The latter will thus be relegated for a while now, but the other two contenders may feature again in the not so distant future. I’ll compose the “dark tourism & clothes” post in the course of the coming week. It’s a bigger theme than you may think, with many quite different aspects involved, so it will be a longer post, and with plenty of photos (I’ve already collected well over a dozen pics from my archives!). Have a good week – and stay safe in these worrying times! Peter
