Assassination Plot Failure, Reconstruction Success & Poll Result

Only one new blog post this week, but a historically significant one. Not in a positive way, though. Tuesday's post was about Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg's attempt at assassinating Adolf Hitler at his Wolfschanze HQ by means of a bomb hidden in a briefcase on 20 July 1944. However, Hitler survived, with only minor injuries, and Stauffenberg and several of his co-conspirators were court-martialled and summarily shot that same night at the Bendlerblock in Berlin. The plaque and wreath seen in the above photo mark the spot of the execution, and one wing of the Bendlerblock today houses the remarkable and enlightening German Resistance Memorial Centre. The success hinted at in this newsletter's title refers to me finally having accomplished my mission of reconstruction all the material from my purged DT page on Facebook from my offline files and uploading them to the new archive on my main website. It's now as complete as I could get it (the odd photo could not be recovered, nor could shares and some links no longer work), i.e. from the very beginning in May 2015 right up to the point when I was shut down and purged in April this year (and everything in between, i.e. for the years 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019). Do take a look – especially if you had also been a follower of that page on FB. It's a kind of reminiscing time-travel exercise, as it were. Finally I owe you the result of last week's poll regarding possible topics for another themed blog post, like last week's “DT and electricity” post. On offer were a) dark tourism and animals
b) dark tourism and ash c) dark tourism and bridges d) dark tourism and walls
The turnout wasn't exactly overwhelming, but still: 19 votes were cast, 12 by comments on the blog post and 7 by email reply, and the result was: 'DT and walls' lost with just one vote, 'DT and animals' got four, 'DT and ash' six – so the winner is: 'DT and bridges' with a total of eight votes (3 on the post, 5 by email). I'll start working on it tomorrow … That doesn't have to mean the other themes can't get another chance in a later poll. Or maybe I'll just use one of them on a whim of my own at some stage. But this coming week it'll be dark tourism and bridges! So much for now. Have a good week. Until next time …
